2000/01 – VBA Division 2 Premiership

The 2000/01 Premiership was an amazing come from behind win. A nervous start by Melbourne giving up 4 runs in the top of the 1st with a couple of errors compounding the good hitting from Malvern.

At the bottom of the 6th after failing to score again and only managing 2 hits and 3 runners on base all day, Melbourne looked under the pump, down 7-1 with 3 innings to play. In the 7th inning Brett Caulfield led off with a first pitch Home run and hits to Brendan Ratcliff, Daniel Kitch, Gerard Cooper and a pinch hit from Matthew Allen chased Ross McLean from the mound and resulted in 5 runs crossing the plate that changed the complexion of the game completely.

In the bottom of the ninth, a Baulk with loaded bases and two outs sealed the dramatic come from behind win 8-7 and a promotion to Division 1 for 2001/02.
