Mens 1sts – beat Waverley 12-2
Melbourne have come through when it was needed most with a thorough schalacking of the top team Waverley. Melbourne opened the scoring in the top of the first and the game was tight until the 6th where Waverley started Adam Bonnadio started to struggle. Waverley tried a few pitchers but all got lit up. Melbourne scoring its largest total of the year in the biggest win of the year.
Mens 2nds – lost to Waverley 9-5
Tim Frost started on the hill and did a sensational job but giving Waverley a 7-0 lead is never going to win you the game. After the first Waverley pitcher left the game Melbouren finally started to hit, outscoring Waverley for a disapointing loss, but good momentum leading into next week.

Round 12 – 05/02/06 Melbourne Red Sox v Berwick at Berwick .
The battle of Melbourne Red v Melbourne Blue was the ticket to set the team up for a terrific Sunday match. Again our thanks to Kelli who ensured the team were well warmed up when Lennie arrived to complete their preparation. It was Alex’s turn to have the injury with his thumb strapped up he volunteered to sit out the first half out acting as 1 st base coach during that time.
Melbourne went into bat and after a walk to 1st Jack had stolen to 3 rd very quickly, he waited for a great hit from Tom to bring him home. Melbourne then benefited from several walks to 1 st, ending the dig with another 2 runs, Callum walked in on Courtney, and Connor walked in by Eddie. Great start.
Tom started the pitching for Melbourne, and of Berwick’s first 7 batters only 2 runs scored and congratulations on 2 strike outs.
Top of the 2 nd and Jack was again walked to 1 st, & stolen to 3 rd by the time Jimmy did a lovely hit (unfortunately to 1 st) but he got Jack home. With Tom back on the mound he pitched to 6 batters and only 1 run scored.
Berwick came into their own in the 3 rd Innings with Connor hitting a great ball to mid-field, then stealing 2 nd and 3 rd, unfortunately left on base as the next 3 players were out.
Alex took over from Tom & found his pace after walking the first batter by striking the next out (after a comment from the Berwick crowd that “this pitcher has no confidence, he’s got nothing) and finished the dig with 3 strike outs and no runs scored.
Berwick changed pitcher, but there was no stopping Jack, yet another walk, steal and home. Tom’s hit was mis-fielded and after a great run to 1 st, he strolled to 2 nd and soon home. Callum’s great hit got him first and wonderful stealing to third but was L.O.B.
Bottom of the 4 th, Alex struck the first batter out, Jack’s throw to Jai got the next out at 2 nd, the fourth batter was caught in the out-field by Callum – Great catch. No runs scored.
Melbourne finished strongly with runs going to Jai, Courtney, Alex and Jack.
Berwick ruined Alex’s last dig by scoring 2 quick runs, but finally with 2 strike outs and one superb piece of fielding by Courtney the match was over.
