Mens 1sts – Second Half of the Season - L,L,L,W,W,W,L,W,?

With one final game against Sunshine this Saturday the Firsts have clinched a Div 1 birth for next season. A poor start to the season and a string of narrow losses has finally turned into some joy with 4 wins in the last 5 games. Next year things have to improve both on and off the field if Melbourne are to stay in Div 1.

Mens 2nds – Second Half of the Season - L,L,L,L,L,W

Prior to Christmas Melbourne were a game outside the finals however a disastrous second half has seen them slip down the ladder ending up at 8th. Despite being very competitive this year in almost all games, a bit of experience was lacking, resulting in a few very close losses against the top 4 teams. Overall a good season with big thanks going to Nathan Jones for his hard work each week.

Much the same story for the seconds. With a bit more experience, the thirds will be able to come away with a few more wins in 2006/2007. Thanks Mitchy for all his hard work this year looking after the thirds.

The U/14 State League team has finished 3rd after the home and away season, only the 2nd time in the last 15 years has the club had a State League junior team in the finals - a credit to all players.

This week, the boys beat Sandringham 9-0 to cement their position in the top four...so we are looking forward to the finals with high expectations.

Also, during early January of this year the following boys participated at the U /14 Australian Championships which were held in the Gold Goast:-

Tristan  Field           U/14 Victorian Team  (Pitcher)

Campbell Wiggins    U/14 Victorian Team  (Pitcher)

Justin Gourlay        U/14 VPBL Team  (Infield)

Alex Hondromatidis  U/14 VPBL Team  (Pitcher)

The Victorian U/14 team finished 3rd and the VPBL team finished 5th.

Both Tristan and Campbell pitched extremely well and were mainly used in relief.

Alex Hondromatidis pitched 9.2 innings for 13 strikeouts and an ERA of .125, finishing 3rd overall in the pitching statistics.

Justin Gourlay had a batting average of .345

Well done to all four boys.

Also, congrats to Lenny Chiverton who has coached the U/14 Metro East team into the finals - cannot recall having both the same age groups (All Star Sunday mornings), of State and Metro in the finals within the same year.................a credit to all involved.
