Mens 1sts – Washed out against Sunshine. We got one inning in out in the heat before a very strong cool change whipped up a storm not seen for a very long time. There was a river flowing from left field to right and the ducks had a wonderful time.
The gutters on the roof of the clubhouse were blocked and after 15mins of solid rain, it started to rain inside the clubrooms. Through the vents, light fixtures and even creating new holes in the walls and ceiling.
Both dugouts were flooded completely. Water was bubbling up from the drains which was meant to drain them. Nice design. As usual, the en tout cas from the infield and down the centre field and right field line warning tracks ended up in Surrey Dive.
Despite all that, the VBA has insisted that the game be replayed. This is including the fact that both teams can't make finals or be relegated. What is the point? One more game left. This Saturday, 2pm start. Surrey Park.

Ladies washed out this week - it certainly bucketed down.
Masters – Congratulations must go to the masters who beat Springvale 8-6 to advance to the finals. Good luck gents!!!

U/14 State League Report - Sunday 26/02/06
1 st Semi Final - Melbourne V Cheltenham
The U/14 State League team hosted Cheltenham in the 1 st Semi Final, which promised to be a close game, against their 2 Victorian pitchers.
Cheltenham scored in the 1 st dig with a quick reply from our boys. The game continued for 2 more innings, with both teams locked in a 1-1 ball game. Alex Hondo started well again and quickly had the Cheltenham hitters concerned with controlled pitch variation and multiple strike outs.
Cheltenham were able to score again in the 4 th dig and extend their lead to 2-1, only to see it diminish with a 3 run home run over Left Field fence by Harley Scheffer……so after 4 digs we were leading 4-2.
During the next few digs our boys turned over two double plays, firstly Campbell Wiggins with a great catch and play to 1 st and then Chris Karabatsos tagging a runner and then obtaining an out at 1 st as well……really good plays.
The game was evenly poised at 4-2 at the bottom of the 6 th with 2 out and runners on 2 nd and 3 rd, Alex Hondo worked the Cheltenham pitcher to a full count and then hit our 2 nd home run over Centre Right for another 3 runs………we extended our lead to 7-2 and were looking the goods.
Cheltenham not to be outdone scored another two runs at the top of the last, which was finished off by a great catch at Centre Field by Tim Stephens.
Melbourne defeated Cheltenham 7 - 4.
All the boys contributed in some way or another, to this great game on the weekend, which apart from 2 weeks ago was their next best game of baseball for this season.
So we play Werribee at Werribee in the State League Preliminary Final, for a shot at the Grand Final the week after.
Highlights of this weekends game:-
Campbell Wiggins…………Double Play
Chris Karabatsos……………Double Play
Alex Hondo…………………Double Play
Harley Scheffer……………..3 Run Home Run
Alex Hondo…………………3 Run Home Run
Alex Hondo…………………70% Strike Ratio with 6 Strike outs
