1sts vs Blackburn - Lost 2-11
After many temperature measurements on the mound, with 15 mins to go there was what was thought to be a final measurement. With the temperature above 40 degrees and the game about to be called off (anything over 38 is too hot), a short wait until 3:30 brought with it a cool change right on 3:30pm. Instantly the temperature dropped to 34 degrees and the game was back on. A short warmup later and the game started at 4pm.
After all that, the 1sts were defeated 11 -2 by the strong Blackburn lineup at Blackburn. Blackburn's starter Cameron Hardy got the win after going 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 earned runs and striking out 7. Daryn Cassidy took the loss on 10 hits over 4 innings and 8 runs ( 6 unearned ). He struck out 7 on the day.
Brendan Ratcliffe in relief for 4 innings gave up 8 hits and 3 earned runs. The game was tied at 1 - 1 until  Blackburn scored 7 runs in one innings - 5 of them were unearned.  Only  coach, Brett Caulfield really did anything with the bat  hitting a double and 2 singles to drive in both runs.
Singles to Stuart Cox, Mark Doubleday, Brendan Ratcliffe and junior player Rhett Mitchelhill. It was a particularly poor performance from the 1sts ,allowing 6 unearned runs to score.
Training this week is on Thursday at 6:30pm

Lets have a quick look at the junior seasons so far.
Sunday Under 18 STATE Melbourne is doing well in 5th spot with Finals in their sights. Under 16 STATE Melbourne is in 11th spot and has been competitive with a young team. Under 16 STATE Waverley/Melbourne team is in 8th spot making some ground. Under 14 METRO Melbourne is in equal 5th spot looking for a top 4 finish to the season.
Under 14 Metro East Melbourne 20 : Malvern 4 In a must win game the Demons were 2 players short with Chris Vapp sidelined and Mitchell Kelly unavailable. Jesse Rintoul came down at very short notice to help out the team and his contribution was great getting 3 walks and 2 runs in for the game. Thanks Jesse for your help.
The match belonged to Melbourne with the big hitting winning out in the end.  Mitchell Armstrong leading the day with 1 from 5 and 3 BB's and 3 great catches in centre field. Patrick Politis had a great day out with 3 safe hits and getting on base 5 times crossing the plate 4 times for the game. Brandon slammed 2 big hits 1 single and 1 double and Adam also had a great day out with the bat with 2 massive 2 base hits, he also fielded a superb double play at third taking a catch while he had his foot on the base catching the runner going from 3rd to home, off the base. Matt Abbott also had a good day out with 2 safe hits including a massive 2 base hit to right field. Stephen Joyce rounded out the hits recording a 2 base hit to right field. Sebastian Dunbar also crossed the plate for 2 runs in so there was good contribution all round.
Brandon Hough pitched for 4 digs and was very effective in shutting down the Malvern team giving up only 5 hits for 3 runs. His change-ups were working well in what proved tough conditions in the heat as the temperature climbed above 30 degrees. Stephen Joyce caught well for the whole game and was relieved when the time and game was called. Patrick Politis closed the game with a solid pitching stint for only 1 run scored. Courtney Kapernick had a brave game coming off an illness from Friday. Thanks Courtney for your big effort.

Friday 8th December, U/12 Preston V Melbourne Blue
Another sensational win by the sensational Melbourne Blue team this week over Preston!
The coaching styles of the two teams was markedly different. Tom encouraged our guys and gave good even direction with no stress or berating, just positive leadership, we are glad to have him guiding our team.
Some highlights of the 8-1 victory to Melbourne were a fabulous catch by Charlie which was inspiring! A scorching throw by Josh to 1st base sending a Preston batter back to the bench, anotherfantastic catch by Titus at 1st base and all round solid runs by Ted, Jack, Charlie and Titus.
Naoya and Brett also put in some valuable work during the match.  Titus ended up with an ankle injury as a result of his efforts, hope he gets fit and well soon.

Teeball Wrap
TEEBALL REPORT FOR WEEK SIX, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2006.
A BIG turnout saw our Teeballers have some good match practice this week. The session was a great lead-in to what might be their first proper game on Friday. Newcomers Chris and Monica Wang joined the regular Teeballers for some stretching, exercises, jogging and then a game against each other.
Mark Davidson, Liam Grant, Wilson Swan, Oliver Grummish, George Kabourakis, Ethan and Shanae Smoothy, Alex Hayman, and Thomas McGoldrick also played. Natasha Donley filled in with the under 12s and Jessica Critchley-Roy, who hurt her finger while warming up with the under 12s, took notes for the Teeball report. Coach Brock Donley was helped by several parents, who filled in throughout the field and helped with the players’ hitting.
In just six weeks their development has been impressive. Teamwork and fielding were a big focus, and most players contributed something special. Liam Grant let fly some huge hits and also fielded well. For first-timers Monica and Chris also hit the ball strongly. Chris took a good catch and Mark, Wilson, Oliver, Shanae, Ethan, Alex, Thomas and George followed Liam with some great hitting. Next week is Teeball’s last before the Christmas break, and families will celebrate the festive season with a mid-season barbecue.
The players are looking forward to a possible game against Malvern to finish the year. Brock said if the game went ahead he needed a good turnout to give Malvern a run for their money. Hopefully families will take time out from the busy festive season to make it.
Anyone with children aged 6-9 who would like to play Teeball from 6-7pm on Friday nights can contact Rodney Hough at rhough@rohmhaas.com.
