1sts vs Sandringham - WON 11-0
In a midweek fixture at Surrey Park, Melbourne easily accounted for Sandringham after a strong offensive display. The win snapped a 3 game losing streak to start the second half of the season. Andrew Mann started on the hiss for 6 innings 1 hit & 7 strikeouts to get the win.
Mathew Holmes took the loss  going 2 1/3 innings and giving up 4 hits with 1 strikeout for 5 earned runs. Centre fielder Michael Dunn who is having a fine season at the plate hit 2 doubles driving in 4 runs. Very promising junior Rhett Mitchelhill continued his fine form hitting 3 singles to drive in 2 runs.
Hits also to Daryn Cassidy  ( double and 2 rbis ), Mark Doubleday ( double & rbi ) and singles to  Jordan Mitchelhill ( 3 ),  Matt Houlden, Brendan Ratcliffe ( rbi ) & Stuart Cox.
1sts vs Essendon - Lost 3-7
The firsts were well beaten in the end by second placed Essendon 7 - 2 at Surrey Park yesterday. Casey Jones got the winner for the victors going 5 2/3 innings for 5 hits 1 run and 8 strikeouts ( most of these were as a result of the MCC batters watching the ball over the plate! ).
Daryn Cassidy took the loss over 7 2/3 innings for 12 hits 6 runs and 11 strikeouts. The strong batting lineup for Essendon had 16 hits to MCC 7 hits. Both teams left a lot of runners out on the bags - Essendon 11 and MCC 10.
Mark Doubleday & Robby Hondo ( 1 rbi ) both had a double & single, Jordan Mitchelhill ( 2 singles ),  Stuart Cox  ( single ) & Brendan Ratcliffe one rbi.
Overall it was a very dissappointing performance. Next game is 6pm Thursday at Newport and is a good chance to get back in the winners column.
There are 7 games left for the season.

Under 18 State vs Newport / Sunshine - Drew 0-0
Under 16 State - Melbourne/Waverley def Melbourne 6-5
Under 14 vs Moorabbin - WON 18-7
This was a must win game for the Demons to keep their Finals hope alive. Melbourne was at full strength coming out of the break and needed all players to fire up. True to their form of the last 5 games the team did the hard work. Adam Hayman started off the pitching in potentially his last game for this season. The Moorabbin team was able to secure 3 runs from 6 BB's leaving Melbourne the task to pull these back with 4 runs coming from our top order and only Adam Hayman hitting safely. In the 2nd dig Moorabbin hit in another 3 runs before  Adam was replaced with Brandon Hough on the mound with bases loaded. Brandon cleaned up the last 2 batters with no further advancement to the score. The Demons came out blazing with hits to Sebastian Dunbar, Stephen Joyce (FC) and the top order Mitchell Kelly, Brandon Hough, Patrick Politis, Chris Vapp, Adam Hayman and Courtney Kapernick all recording hits and slamming on 7 runs. Courtney's was a massive grounded double to LF setting up the Demons for win. Moorabbin could not match this in the 3rd where Brandon tore the batting apart with 3 up 3 down and the reliable safe hands of Mitchell Kelly at 1st sitting the side down supported by some great infield plays. Melbourne had their confidence rising. In the 3rd dig Stephen Joyce started off another batting frenzy supported by Mitchell Kelly, Chris Vapp and Adam Hayman for 5 more runs. Brandon cleaned up remaining 4 batters in the 4th with only 1 run added to the Moorabbin score while Melbourne added another 2 runs for a total of 18 : 7. Patrick Politis was robbed of what appeared to most to be a home run hit to RF a massive drive which looked like it cleared the cones by 1 metre cost Melbourne the final run of the game.
A very balanced Batting team this week with 2 safe hits each to Mitchell Kelly, Patrick Politis Chris Vapp and Adam Hayman and singles to Brandon Hough, Courtney Kapernick (with hew new shoes), Sebastian Dunbar (with his new bat) and Stephen Joyce. Thanks go to Matt Abbott and Mitchell Armstrong for supporting the opposition team each for half a game in true sportsmanship. A great win to the Demons and for the first time this season are now in the four as Upwey FTG (our next weeks challenge) was beaten by Berwick Blue in a surprising upset. The Demons need to win against Upwey FTG to guarantee a finals berth so all eyes will be on Macleay Park this coming Sunday.
Under 12 Under 12 Sunday Metro East vs Sandringham - WON 15-6
An excellent team performance considering we only managed to have 8 players due to the long holiday weekend and Naoya playing with a fever. A good all round team performance with Lachlan Morris getting 4 hits, Jack Scheffer & Tim Ross 3, Ted Middleditch 2 and singles to Hudson and Cooper Gerwing, Naoya Ikeda.  While we did not hit the cover off the ball - all of our hitters put the ball in play including Titus Lin to put the pressure on the Sandringham defence.  Good pitching from Lachlan
Morris kept us in the game in the first innings and a typical day out for Jack Scheffer on the mound collecting 10 K's and only giving up 2 runs in 4 innings of work in relief. A good mental approach by all the boys to secure the win and pleasing to grind out a game where everybody contributed.
