1sts vs Blackburn - Lost 4-9
The 1sts suffered their third defeat out of three at the hands of Blackburn 9 - 4 last Thursday night at Melbourne Ballpark. Tristan Field took the mound for his first start for the 1sts and did a superb job against the very strong hitting Blackburn lineup. Midway through the game the scores were 4-5 before the stong Blackburn lineup finally got on top of the pitching.
Lee Hogan started for Blackburn and went for 3 inn, 7 hits 1 strike out and 4 earned runs. The winning pitcher was Blackburn's Brendan Wilson on 2 inn 1 hit 2 strike outs and no runs. Tristan Field took the loss but won a lot of fans for his first outing.
Despite the loss, the 1sts outhit Blackburn 9 hits to 7 with singles to Matty Houlden, Daryn Cassidy, Robby Hondo, Chris Cassidy, Andy Mann, Sean Edwards ( 2 ) and Nathan Jones ( 2 ).
1sts vs Malvern - Lost 11-1
The 1sts have been outhit by and been beaten by Malvern 11 - 1 at Wadsworth Field last weekend. Malvern starter Ross McLean handcuffed our batters. He took the win on 5 inn  2 hits 1 earned run and 4 strikeouts. Andy Mann took the loss on 4 inn 11 hits 8 earned runs and 1 strikeout. Jonathon Wiggins did a good job in relief on 3 2/3 inn 5 hits 3 earned runs.
Across the afternoon the 1sts were outhit by Malvern 6 to 16. Singles to Robby Hondo ( 2 ) Chris Cassidy ( 2 ) Brad Harman & Daryn Cassidy.
This week the Melbourne Baseball Club has been fortunate to welcome Brad Harman who is signed by the Philadelphia Phillys. Brad has just returned from Single A Ball in the States and will certainly be of benefit to the 1sts.
The 1sts play again on Wednesday night at Melb Ballpark in a must win game against Newport.
2nds vs Malvern - Lost 0-10
A promising start with cagey veteran Ben Telford on the mound keeping the Malvern bats quiet early. It’s one thing to keep their bats quiet, but if our bats are absolutely silent then it’s game over. Ben gave us 5 innings, which is by far the longest start we have had this season, but nothing could get the team motivated.
Lenny was unlucky all day, he hit the ball flat and hard but there was always an outfielder in the way. Brendan Mann stood up and got hits, not worried by the fact his team mates were struggling at the plate, he just dug in and hacked away successfully.
Batting practice will be the flavour of training this week. Training Thursday night at our home ground from 6pm.
3rds vs Malvern - Lost. Unsure of score, not on web.
Hsien lead off the game and apparently that was the majoity of the positives this week.

ENDS.
4ths vs Malvern - Lost 4-8.
Women's Division 2 - BYE
Under 18 State vs Bonbeach - WON 9-2
After going down to a strong Upwey Ferntree Gully 5-1 last Sunday, the second round saw the MelDons (anyone come up with a better name  - let us know) click behind some good hitting and a tight defence  to record their first win of the season, defeating a gallant Bonbeach 9-2. Rhetta was solid on the hill including a 4 pitch first dig, with Andy playing a 'one man show' at shortstop - 4 putouts and 4 assists (including a double play).
Rhett batted strongly all day and Jacko smacked a couple early in the count. Play of the Day: Jacko took a nice fly in centre and gunned the ball home where Dane tagged the runner in a heavy collision at the plate - double play - great baseball.
Coaches Quip: "the boys really wanted to hit today" HITS: 3 Rhett Mitchelhill 2 Ben Jackson: 1 Dane Pearce, Andy Mann & Josh Bevis.
Donc/Melb:  320 013 0 = 9 Bonbeach:  020 000 0 = 2
