1sts vs Doncaster - Lost 5-13
The firsts were easily defeated 13 - 5 out at Doncaster. In a rain interrupted game the firsts lead 4 -2 early on and looked to be right in it. However, Doncaster's experienced starter Jason Blejwas got the win going 8 innings on 6 hits 7 strikeouts 2 base on balls for 4 earned runs.
Tristan Field took the loss for the firsts after relieving Andy Mann. The mountain of a mound, combined with the slippery conditions made it difficult to keep solid footing and as a result, 4 were walked. Special mention must go to Daniel Kitch who performed satisfactorily as first base coach and did a splendid job in warming up Tristan Field prior to his outing on the mound. We will be looking for an improved performance on the bases in the coming weeks as he fell eight runs short of a winning total.
Andy Mann started for Melbourne going 5 innings on 6 hits 4 strikeouts 3 BB 2 wild pitches and 4 earned runs.
Hits went to Andy Mann ( a fine triple & 1 rbi ), singles to Robbie Hondo ( 2 & 2 rbi ) Matty Houlden ( 2 ) Andrew Fennell ( 1 rbi ) & Rhett Mitchelhill ( 1 rbi ).
Next game is at Surrey Park on Sunday vs Geelong.

Teeball
Teeball week one, Friday, November 3, 2007.
MOST are novices, but our new Teeballers did themselves proud on their first night with heaps of home runs. Twelve ultra-keen kids aged 4-9 turned up on a cool Friday evening and couldn’t wait to get started.
New coach Daniel Kitch took them through their paces with a run and warm-up exercises. They then paired off to practice throwing and catching. It took a bit of time to get used to the ball and the rules, but once they got into it there was no stopping them. Most batters scored a home run, and everyone tried hard in the field with several great efforts and one almost-spectacular catch.
As well as game-play, the kids enjoyed running around the bases and playing tiggy. It was a great first-up effort and no doubt everyone will enjoy themselves even more when they get the hang of the game.
Only two Teeballers had played for Melbourne before: Jessica, 8, and Ethan, 6. They were joined by Jamie, 5, Madeline, 5, Samantha, 9, and her sister Jamie, 7, Harrison, 6, Joel, 8, Hamish, 4, Harry, 6, and Mason, 6. Jessica’s sister Rebecca, 6, was a bit shy but joined in towards the end.
New children are still welcome; anyone interested should contact Stuart Rintoul, srintoul@bigpond.com, 0438 809 181.
