Under 14 vs Blackburn / Waverley - Lost 8-13
The one that got away. We started well, leading 3-1 after 2 innings. Jack Scheffer pitched strongly, but when he tired, it all went pear-shaped. Early in the game, we had some strong hits, but we failed to string our hits together in order to build on our lead. We gave up too many unearned runs & our hits dried up during the middle innings. We simply failed to put the ball into play. We hung in with a shout courtesy of three double plays.
Baseball is always a game of "ifs". Trailing 3-4, Scheffer hit a boomer out to left that appeared to be caught behind the cones. The catch was ruled good, the out stood nd instead of leading 5-4, we failed to score in that innings. It was all downhill after that. It may have changed the outcome, but the way we played after that would give Coach Des little cause for comfort.
We looked good at the end of the game, but it proved too little, too late. We have a big Preliminary Final this week. We must impose ourselves on the game early, and hit the ball hard from the first to the last innings if we are to earn another crack at Blackburn/Waverley.
Hits: Middleditch (Batted 1000) 2 (incl. H/R); Polites 2 (incl. H/R); Scheffer 1; Ross 1; Dunbar 1.

Little League Domestic
Friday night – Melbourne Reds 10 vs. Malvern Indians 4
We finished the home and away season undefeated with a solid win over Malvern. Charlie Keyhoe started the pitching off and allowed 1 run in the first but struck out all 3 in the second. Sarah Chancellor Goddard was great behind the plate and let very little past. We scored 7 in the first and once again, everyone was swinging the bat. Callum Kent was the standout with a home run as the leadoff batter in the first innings.
Sean Rintoul came into pitch in the 3 rd. and threw 2 good innings; David Slape finished off the game and threw too hard for the Malvern hitters. Lachlan Padbury relived Sarah behind the plate. The standout play in the field was Brett Cronin who threw out a runner at first base from a good pick up at right field.
We play the same team again this week at Melbourne and need to continue our good form.
Teeball
Teeball wraps up
Great hitting, much improved throwing and a very funny attempted catch were highlights of the final Teeball session for 2007/08. Eight keen kids kept coach Adam busy with lots of throwing, catching, hitting and running. Rachel, Hugh, Jess, Nathan, Harrison, Harry, Madeline and Jamie all did really well. They started with a run then divided up. Half practiced their base running with Adam while the other half their hitting and fielding with Jess’s mum and Rachel and Hugh’s dad. Jamie may be small in stature but whacked the ball like a pro, as did Harry and Nathan. Rachel and Hugh also hit the ball really well for beginners.
Jess and Nathan showed great improvement with their throwing and catching, as did all the others. Nathan also entertained with an unintentional attempt to catch the ball with his bottom.
It was a great session and everyone showed fantastic improvement. Well done.
Teeball is now finished for the season, and teeballers and their families are welcome to attend the Melbourne Baseball Club junior presentation night in the clubrooms on Wednesday, March 19.
