Little League East Centre Grand Final

In an epic Grand Final encounter, the Melbourne Red Sox just pipped the Melbourne Angels in the final extra inning to win the title. Whilst The Red Sox lead early in the game, they were smashed in the 3rd inning with an Angels 6 run scoring spree. Starting pitcher Lucas Keyhoe was good early but was replaced by James Richardson after the 3rd. With the Red Sox watching their season slip away, an inspiring speech by guest motivator David Simpson, helped the Red Sox even up and then go ahead with 3 runs in the 4th and 5th. But the Angels themselves were not finished, tying the game up in the 5th with 1 run to send the game into an extra innings and near dark conditions.

The Red Sox lead off the 6th with back to back hits to Riley Spagnol and Charlie O’Connell that both scored giving them a 2 run lead.  RBI’s from the ever improving Jake Kennedy and Ben Bramich were the defining hits of the game. With closer Finn O’Connell on the mound for the Red Sox, the Angels hit back again with 1 run after a hit from Conor Braszell. With 2 runners in scoring position and only 1 out, a timely double play from young gun James Richardson at second base gave the game to the Red Sox.

Lachlan Rae, Jake Kennedy, Ethan Scalzo, Lucas Keyhoe and Finn O’Connell each had 1 hit for the Red Sox whilst James Richardson, Matthew Dickinson, Charlie O’Connell and Riley Spagnol each had 2. Ben Bramich, Matthew Henderson and Patrick Singh all contributed to a great result.

Congratulations to the Angels team that had a great season and fought the game out the whole way. Angels pitcher Miles Stukenborg was sensational on the mound only giving up 2 runs.

Congrats to the Red Sox team that had to beat 2 Melbourne teams in the finals series after finishing 4th on the ladder. The game was made very special by significant input from the whole team, everyone had an impact on the game and the result.
